Elements (Spirits)
There are spirits for all five elements (earth, air, water, fire, and death). All spirits (of any of the elements) can tell you anything relating to their element. Remember, though, that spirits are essences of things and so can't control anything. They are used as a source of information. They also can assume forms that seem solid but aren't (this is for those who can't communicate to them in what they would consider a normal manner).
Fire
A spirit of the element of fire can tell you about physical fires. They can also tell you about a person changing (a type of "rebirth") and about a "fiery" relationship (physical or sexual).
Water
A spirit of the element of water can tell you about the weather (at least any involving water) and can be helpful when traveling by water. The common form it assumes has a sickly voice.
Air
This is by far the most widely used Spirit Element. A spirit of this element can tell about conversations and so is most widely used to spy on people. Sounds like a sick human.
Earth
A spirit of this element is used by farmers and trackers the most. As things that disturb the Earth are known by these spirits.
Death
A spirit of death can report where someone has died (though they don't usually give up how the person has died). These spirits can't be used to contact the dead. However, dealing with these spirits can be deadly as they take pleasure in someone's pain, misery, and death.

Spirits
Spirits are "creatures" that don't have a form as we know it. They are more of an essence then an actual creature.

Tamui (bio)
History
Tamui always thought he was a leader while he was growing up. Once he grew up, he still thought that. He decided to court Sajoki because he thought she was hot. He became very angry when he found out Rig Katashi was having an affair with Sajoki (who he had successfully courted by that time). He wouldn't have killed Rig, though, as Rig was too important.
Relationships
Tamui and Rig Katashi
Tamui always looked at Rig Katashi as a slave. Since Rig isn't human, Tamui didn't think he should be respected as one.
Tamui and Sajoki
Tamui likes Sajoki's looks and quickly made her to be his wife (actually something similar). He even got Rig Katashi to watch over Sajoki because he was afraid someone would take advantage of her.
Appearance

Sajoki (bio)
History
Sajoki was born and lived with other humans. She thought that starting a relationship (and eventual marriage) with Tamui would be good. However, she got attracted to Rig Katashi and began a purely sexual relationship with him. When he found out she was using him, he killed both her and Tamui.
Relationships
Sajoki and Rig Katashi
Sajoki was sexually attracted to Rig, but never truly loved him. She liked his child-like personality and how he made love to her.
Sajoki and Tamui
Sajoki never loved anyone: including Tamui. However, she found a relationship with him to be more beneficial than the one with Rig. Tamui thought Sajoki loved him and didn't think she'd cheat on him.

Yamaka (bio)
History
Yamaka was stolen as a young woman and given to Hijunaki. It was then made so that she didn't age as normal people do. She later escaped and was killed before Jirou and Rig Katashi could bring her back.
Relationships
Yamaka and Katashi
Yamaka was in the mood for something new and so slept with Katashi. However, she didn't mourn when he died. This might've been because she was afraid of how Hijunaki would react.
Yamaka and Hijunaki
Yamaka never really loved Hijunaki. She was interested him in the beginning, but slowly started to hate being trapped.
Appearance
She's a human woman.

Rig Katashi (bio)
"Katashi, out of respect for you, I am adding your name onto my own."-Rig Katashi at Katashi's Funeral
History
Creation
Rig was created by Hijunaki. He was created with a good majority of knowledge, though he still is really a child. Just not a human child.
Capture, Enslavement, and Escape
A short time after Rig's creation he was captured. He was then given to Tamui as a slave. He hunted for Tamui's people as well as being Tamui's personal servant. Rig falls in love with Sajoki (Tamui's lover) and they start a sexual relationship. This leads to Rig killing Sajoki and Tamui. Then he leaves the camp.
First Mission and Incident with Akumie
Rig's first mission was to find and kill Katashi. Instead, Rig ends up trying to save him but fails. In Katashi's memory, Rig takes Katashi's name and adds it onto his own. Hijunaki, however, takes Rig to his Palace. Rig (due to what he was taught by Katashi) decides to use Akumie (a weather goddess) as a sexual trophy. He does have sex with Akumie but she ultimately leaves and is angry at him.
Losing Hijunaki's Favor
Rig goes on a mission with Jirou to find, and return Yamaka, to Hijunaki. This didn't work due to Yamaka being killed by something before they could get to her. Even after thousands of years Rig still doesn't have Hijunaki's favor.
Time With Yomosa
Hijunaki assigns Rig (with Jirou's help) to get Yomosa. Rig successfully brings Yomosa to Hijunaki's Palace. He is devastated when he is ordered to kill Yomosa. He decides, instead, to battle Hijunaki to the death so that Yomosa can live. He debates fighting Hijunaki and decides it was his fault what is happening to Yomosa. They have sex before he fights Hijunaki. He manages to kill Hijunaki. Afterwards he admits his feelings to Yomosa (but not to her) and she has the same feelings for him.
Time With Yomosa After Killing Hijunaki
Is traveling with Yomosa. They end up staying in a farming village. Waking up, Yomosa asks why Rig keeps her around. He loves her but doesn't say so. After breakfast they do a play fight. At the end of this she ends up in his arms. Gets up and walks around one night because he thinks he's being followed by Akumie. He works on the farm and someone looks at him oddly. He tells Yomosa but she doesn't think anything's wrong. When they go back to their room they find it trashed. Rig finds out from an Air Elemental that they have to leave Japan to save themselves. When Yomosa wakes up he tells her this and finally admits that he loves her. They leave the village with the end goal of leaving Japan.
When Rig and Yomosa are close to a harbor they are ambushed by Jirou. He thinks his old friend is going to attack him but Jirou says he just wants to eat Yomosa. Yomosa ends up offering Jirou fresh wolf meat. After Jirou finishes the meat, Rig goes and tells his old friend about his current situation. Jirou then tells Rig and Yomosa about where a closer harbor is. Rig parts ways with Jirou and goes to the harbor with Yomosa. When they are close Rig races Yomosa to the harbor. Before they can get there they are confronted by an Eastern Dragon. Yomosa fights the Eastern before Rig is able to break free from the magical bonds the dragon had held him down with. Rig then promptly kills the Eastern.
Rig comforts Yomosa after killing Eastern. He warns her of the dangers of traveling with him, but she decides to stay with him anyways. After Rig can't find a ship for him and Yomosa to travel on, he turns into an Eastern Dragon and has Yomosa ride him.
Relationships
Rig Katashi and Katashi
Katashi and Rig form a bond in a very short amount of time. Katashi teaches Rig about his philosophy of "no love, only sex" which Rig takes to heart. After Katashi's death, Rig adds Katashi's name onto his own. Some of Rig's early mistakes can be linked to Katashi.
Rig Katashi and Hijunaki
Rig doesn't like Hijunaki as he doesn't like to be restrained. Ever since Rig's creation, he has been at odds with Hijunaki. He finally kills him.
Rig Katashi and Akumie
Rig, at first, started a relationship with Akumie merely for having sex with a goddess. He starts to develop feelings for her but the purely physical (aka sexual) aspects always one out. When Akumie left Rig still didn't know how he felt about her.
Rig Katashi and Jirou
Rig at first started a friendship with Jirou because he was a good sparring buddy. Then he kept the friendship because Jirou became his only friend. Rig was said to leave Jirou behind and misses him dearly.
Rig Katashi and Sajoki
Rig loved Sajoki. But as Sajoki was his first love he didn't realize that she didn't love him. He ended up killing him because he felt she had betrayed him. Still, thousands of years after her murder, he still mourns for her.
Rig Katashi and Tamui
Rig always hated Tamui. Rig never regretted killing him.
Rig Katashi and Yomosa
Rig is entranced with Yomosa's defiance. Right before fighting Hijunaki he admits, to himself, that he loves her. Afterwards they become a couple. He finally admits that he loves her (to her) when Rig is told that he must leave Japan.
Rig Katashi and Eastern
Rig sees Eastern as nothing more than an enemy. He is relieved when Eastern is finally dead.

Jirou (bio)
History
Jirou (a half-wolf, half-human) was created by Hijunaki and became a good friend of Rig Katashi. Jirou told Akumie the truth (that Rig was using her for sex). The first mission Jirou goes on with Rig is to find Hijunaki's human female slave Yamaka.
Getting Yomosa
Hijunaki assigns Jirou to help Rig Katashi in his mission to get Yommosa. Jirou is assigned so that Rig won't cause too much trouble. The mission was successful.
Rig Katashi Fighting Hijunaki
Jirou tries to get Rig to not fight Hijunaki for Yomosa. He fails. After Hijunaki dies, Jirou leaves Hijunaki's Palace as well as saying goodbye to Rig Katashi.
Rig's About to Leave Japan
Jirou, being so used to what Hijunaki could provide him, isn't coping well with being out on his own. He runs into Rig Katashi and Yomosa. He tells Rig he wants to eat Yomosa, but Rig says no and Yomosa offers Jirou fresh wolf meat. Jirou accepts the meat and soon after tells Rig about a harbor that is closer by. He then says goodbye to his longtime friend.
Relationships
Jirou and Rig Katashi
Jirou is Rig's only true friend. Jirou truly started their friendship when they began sparring. He helps Rig out but doesn't truly understand Rig. Jirou discovers he admires Rig as a true friend and after Rig kills Hijunaki, the admiration doesn't diminish. Jirou is very sad when Rig leaves.
Jirou and Hijunaki
Jirou is not friends with Hijunaki by any means, but he is trusted by Hijunaki nonetheless.
Jirou and Yomosa
Views Yomosa as a human and unimportant.
Appearance
Jirou appears to be a wolf that walked on its hind legs. His head has the same shape as a human’s and has human teeth. Jirou’s hands are also human but have fur on the back of them.
Powers
Jirou can contact the spirits of all the elements (fire, earth, air, water, and death).

Hijunaki (bio)
History
Hijunaki is a snake demon that lives in Japan. He lives in his palace (Hijunaki's Palace) where he creates beings to do his bidding. Sometimes his creations aren't obedient (such as Rig Katashi), but he only kills as a last resort.
Killing of Katashi
Hijunaki's first mission for Rig is to kill Katashi. Katashi's crime was sleeping with Yamaka (who was only to be touched by Hijunaki). When Rig wouldn't kill Katashi, Hijunaki sent creatures to do the deed instead. Rig wasn't able to defend Katashi and so Hijunaki won.
Wanting Yomosa
Thousands of years after the death of Yamaka, Hijunaki has become obsessed with a new woman (Yomosa). Hijunaki assigns Rig Katashi to get her for him. Hijunaki has Jirou go with Rig so that nothing will get too out of control. He is pleased when Yomosa is brought to him.
Yomosa's Refusal
Hijunaki is furious that Yomosa didn't submit to him. He goes to Rig and orders that Rig kill her. Once Rig Katashi says he wants to keep Yomosa, Hijunaki challenges Rig to a battle until one of them dies. He is killed by Rig Katashi.
Relationships
Hijunaki and Rig Katashi
Hijunaki hates Rig and refuses to admit Rig has a second name. However, only after Rig angers Akumie (see Sushi, Sake, and Tanuki: A New Leaf 8) does he become outwardly hostile to Rig. After Rig fails to bring Yamaka alive to him, he hates Rig even more. Though he eventually gives Rig a certain amount of respect, he still thinks of Rig as dishonorable.
Hijunaki and Yamaka
Yamaka was Hijunaki's special human female slave that no one else was to touch. He was very protective of her. When she died he was extremely devastated.
Hijunaki and Yomosa
Hijunaki is taken away with Yomosa's beauty. But starts to loathe her when she refuses him.

Hijunaki has the power to create beings but no other powers have been shown yet.

History
Akumie is a weather goddess of Japan who (in Sushi, Sake, and Tanuki: A New Leaf) lost her lover. On her visit to Hijunaki's Palace she falls in love with Rig Katashi. She leaves when she finds out Rig was only using her for sex.
After awhile Akumie starts to plan her revenge against Rig. She sends Eastern to kill Yomosa.
Powers
As a weather goddess, Akumie can control any aspect of the weather. Adding to that ability, she can change herself into any physical aspect of the weather. Such as lightning (see Sushi, Sake, and Tanuki: A New Leaf 8).
